Case overview
The documented record
In February 2005, nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford was abducted from her home in Homosassa, Florida, by John Couey, a convicted sex offender who lived nearby. She was held captive and murdered, and Couey was later convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping, burglary, and sexual battery. The case drew national attention and helped inspire Florida’s Jessica’s Law.
